Question 1: Where can I access images? Answer 1: You can access images from specific locations within the hospital or from your home, office, or other location via high-speed internet (DSL, Cable, T1 line). Question 2: When will I be able to access images through PACS? Answer 2: The GSCH PACS system is due to be installed in March 2005 and the subsequent rollout to the physicians within the hospital and then to the outside physicians. Question 3: Once the system is active, can I access images at any time of day? Answer 3: Clinicians, referring physicians, radiologists, and other authorized users will have fast, convenient, 24-hour image and information access on-site or at remote locations. Question 4: What type of equipment is required? Answer 4: The system can distribute multi-modality images and reports for viewing with equipment ranging from dual-monitor, high-resolution workstations to standard PCs with an INTERNET EXPLORER browser. Question 5: Will I also be able to access other clinical information through PACS? Answer 5: The PACS System is integrated directly with the Meditech ITS and Meditech EMR systems. This will allow physicians access to all their data in the same way they are use to today. The Meditech system will allow you to simply click an Icon when “Images are available” to access the PACS system. Therefore the information provided through Meditech today will also expand with the images from PACS, creating a clear and concise package of information. Question 6: Why is GSCH installing PACS? Answer 6: The fundamental reason is to provide a higher-level of patient care through access to information in an efficient, consistent manner. PACS does this and also allows the hospital to reduce film and storage costs. The patients benefit, the clinicians benefit, and the hospital benefits. Finally, PACS allows GSCH to decrease report turnaround times to the referring physician. — Look to this section for more FAQ’s in future, or let Radiology know if you need a new answer posted.
